Why I’m Watching One Tree Hill Again
Hi friends! Been a minute. Hope you’re all having a great summer wherever you are! I recently just moved (again!) and I’ve been so busy trying to keep up with life. Today I counted up all the times I’ve moved since 18, and that number is 10. 10! For someone who hates moving so much, I sure do it a lot!
So one of the things I’ve been getting more into this summer is podcasts and that’s because of One Tree Hill. One Tree Hill and Grey’s Anatomy were the only two shows I watched consistently in high school and they both had a HUGE impact on me. I think when you’re that young and impressionable, you end up getting a lot of your ideas about life from the media you consume. Country music and these two shows taught me so much about life, love, relationships, family, work, and so much more without me even realizing sometimes. Other times it was obvious- like my little stint with medicine when I decided I wanted to be a surgeon like Meredith. Yeah, that didn’t happen lol.
But I truly loved One Tree Hill because the characters and stories were so relatable. I found myself in so many of the characters, even the ones I didn’t expect to relate to. Plus I loved getting to see another side of high school that I didn’t get to experience, in the normalness of cheer, sports, high school drama, and everything in between.
So when the girls of One Tree Hill (Peyton, Brooke Davis, and Haley) AKA, Hilarie Burton, Sophia Bush, and Bethany Joy Lenz irl came together to make a podcast about the show I was STOKED. OTH came out in 2003- almost 20 years later it’s still a cult favorite and inspires soooooo many more generations of teenagers looking for something to relate to. I love getting to see the show’s perspective from the actresses who brought to life my favorite characters. These ladies have so much to share about the behind-the-scenes of the show and how it all came together to work so well. The three of them have amazing conversation chemistry and they build off each other so well. And oh my gosh are these girls funny! They have so many hilarious memories to share from the show that it really feels like you’re getting to experience episodes again for the first time.
My favorite thing about the podcast is they watch & review & talk about one episode each week. It’s a great way to start watching the show again because it’s a low time commitment but it’s so so SO special getting to watch the show with fresh eyes each week with the people who played the characters. It’s been so fun taking a trip down memory lane with these girls and reflecting back on the places I was in life when watching the show. Now I’m one year away from graduating college and life is so different, but so many parts of the show are still just as relatable.
This is one of the first podcasts I’m genuinely so excited to tune into each week, and it’s been so much fun seeing what the podcast hype is all about. It’s inspired me to listen to even more podcasts because I didn’t realize how great they are! And I totally respect everyone who has a podcast because I know how much work goes into it- last semester I was an intern for my university’s college of medicine and I helped them create a podcast about medical burnout. It was NOT as easy as I thought it’d be haha.
If you have any podcast recommendations please share them with me! And if you like One Tree Hill and also want to watch along with the podcast, now’s a great time to start because they’ve only covered the pilot and the second episode! Find it wherever you listen to podcasts. It’s called Drama Queens and I haven’t figured out why they chose that name yet, but I’ll let you know when I do!
Sincerely,
Solen xxx
