My Dry January Favorites
If there’s anyone who’s qualified to give you n/a recommendations, it’s me! I made the decision years ago to not drink for religious reasons, so I’m always on the hunt for the next best drink that’s fun & fresh (and sober of course!) These are in no particular order:
- Liquid Death’s lime flavor
Not only are these guys the coolest for putting water into a beer can (goodbye constant “why are you not drinking questions”) but their lime flavor is actually really good! It’s like a lighter version of a sprite, and with only 3 grams of added sugar I totally recommend checking them out!
2) Trader Joe’s pineapple juice
If you want something fruity, this is for you! It comes in a tiny can which is perfect for throwing in your purse the next time you go to a party or wedding and want to bring your own sober drink. It also comes in a mango flavor that’s equally delish!
3) Spindrift
I recently discovered these and they are such a perfect light pick me up! If you like sparkling water with just a *hint* of flavor, these are for you! It’s flavored with real fruit juice, and has really minimal, clean ingredient’s which I love! They make a mean mocktail if you add some mint and your favorite berries muddled together.
4) Olipop
If you want a healthier alternative to drinking soda, and you haven’t tried Olipop RUN don’t walk! I can’t understand how the recreate the flavors of soda with only a quarter of the calories/sugar. Most have only 5 grams of sugar which is nothing compared to how much pure sugar is pumped into a Coca-Cola for example. My favorite flavors are their Root Beer and Orange Squeeze. These are really great on their own but you can also use them to make a mocktail!
5) Bottled root beer
If you want to blend in at a party and avoid the sobriety questions, get yourself a bottled root beer and just put a koozie on it or take off the label. I used to be really self-conscious about not drinking at parties so I did this for a while and it did the trick! Plus I love root beer and drinking it out glass feels a little more special and elevated, which is a nice thing to do for yourself when you’re going out with friends who do drink.
And there you go! I hope these help whether you’re on a sobriety journey or just trying to drink less alcohol and be healthier. It took me a while to get comfortable with my choice to not drink, and I feel totally fine talking about it now but it wasn’t always like that. If you’re in a similar boat, I hope it gets easier for you and just try to remember why you made that decision for yourself in the first place. Happy new year, and happy Dry January to everyone participating!
Sincerely,
Solen xxx
